Day of Surgery

Preparation

What to bring:  Escort (a responsible adult who is present in the office for the duration of the appointment), inhaler if applicable
What not to bring:  Cell phone (please leave it with your escort)
What to wear:  Loose-fitting clothes, (please no jewelry, contact lenses, or fingernail polish)
*NO FOOD OR DRINK 6 HOURS BEFORE YOUR SURGERY

By the time you arrive for your surgery appointment we will have reviewed your treatment, filled your prescriptions, and made financial arrangements.  Any last-minute questions will be answered prior to signing a consent form.  Your escort will then be dismissed to the lobby area, where they will remain for the duration of the appointment.

For further questions about your preparation, please review the pre-anesthesia instruction document.

PROCEDURE

The surgical assistant will place monitoring devices on your chest, arm, and finger and begin to deliver laughing gas through a nasal hood. An I.V. line will then be placed in your right hand or arm.  The sedation medications are then administered which will allow you to be very comfortable for the rest of the appointment.

After the surgery is completed, you will be kept in the chair for 10-20 minutes while we remove your monitors and allow the sedation to wear off.  We will review post-operative instructions with you and your escort and then walk you to your car.

The rest of the day should be spent relaxing.  Minimizing your activity level will be crucial if you want to make a quick recovery!  Try not to do any chewing and refrain from talking.  This will help reduce swelling and discomfort.  Remember that your swelling will reach its max two days after the surgery.  For further post-operative instructions, click here.

We want your wisdom teeth experience to be as comfortable as possible.  If you have any further questions or would like to schedule a consultation appointment please contact us!
